He was nicknamed "Iron Tigran" due to his almost impenetrable defensive playing style, which emphasised safety above all else.
On February 11, 1961 Tigran Petrosian won his second Soviet Chess championship title two years after he annexed the crown and a prelude to his candidates victory enroute to the World championship match against Mikhail Botvinnik in 1963.
