EMANUEL LASKER

Did you know? ♟️

Emanuel Lasker was the longest reigning world chess champion, he retained the title for 26 years and 337 days. The German player became the second world champion when he defeated Wilhelm Steinitz in 1894. Lasker defended his title against Steinitz, Marshall, Tarrasch, Janowski, Schlechter before losing it to Jose Raul Capablanca in 1921.

With the level of competition in modern chess, it is certain that Lasker's record won't ever be beaten. The closest came Alexander Alekhine who was champion for 16 years and 128 days in two reigns (Nov 29, 1927 – Dec 14, 1935, and from Dec 4, 1937, to his death on Mar 24, 1946).
