Historic meeting: Bobby Fischer's only encounter with then World champion Mikhail Botvinnik took place at the 15th Olympiad held in Varna, Bulgaria in 1962. The first meeting was the most looked forward to for the board one encounter between WC Botvinnik and the young, hopeful Fischer at fifteen years old.
Fischer gained an advantageous position in the middlegame and into a hardfought endgame, but gradually let his advantage slip and eventually called it a drawn on the 68th move.
