21-year-old Jorden Van Foreest becomes the first Dutch grandmaster to win the Wijk aan Zee tournament since Jan Timman in 1985!
In the last round, tournament leader Anish Giri made a draw with David Anton. Van Foreest caught up with Giri after he defeated Nils Grandelius in a game which he conducted in a "great sacrificial style" (Nigel Short). White's king went all the way to h6 to force Black's resignation! The tiebreak for first followed, with two draws and an Armageddon game, in which Anish lost on time.
