THIS DAY IN HISTORY: Sixteen-years old GM Judith Polgar in a face-off with former World Chess champion Boris Spassky dubbed as the Training Match started on January 31, 1993 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Budapest. Originally scheduled for 12-game match narrowed down to ten games and a prize fund of $200,000 by the same sponsorhip who staged the controversial Fischer-Spassky rematch in Sveti Stefan, former Yugoslavia by the financier Jezdimir Vasiljevic five months earlier in September 1992.
"I am afraid of Judit", and "She is a great player, a player of the future." Spassky said when asked by reporters about his young opponent.
Judith went on and defeated the 56- year old Spassky narrowly on a 3 win, 2 lose with five draws.
