Twelve participants who remained in Belgrade of former Yugoslavia after the USSR vs. Rest of the World 1970 match took part in the double round invitational blitz in the town of Herceg Novi.
In attendance where famous chess assasins and former world champions and Candidates qualifiers like Vassily Smyslov, Mikhail Tal, Tigran Petrosian, Bobby Fischer, Viktor Korchnoi, David Bronstein, Vlastimil Hort, Samuel Reshevsky, Wolfgang Uhlmann, Milan Matulovic, Borislav Ivkov and Predrag Ostojić.
Fischer scored a staggering 19/22 and a huge 4.5 points gap over Tal at second place. Fischer was undefeated against former world champions (2-0 each) Tal, Petrosian and Smyslov. Only Korchnoi managed to tame (1-1) Fischer's excessive force with one win each in their face-off.
